The Philadelphia City Paper was founded in November of 1981 and has the largest readership of any weekly newspaper in Philadelphia, covering the eight counties in the Philadelphia region. Our award-winning news, arts and entertainment coverage has also helped to establish City Paper as Philadelphia's leading weekly newspaper.
City Paper is a controlled-circulation newspaper, distributed free every Thursday morning to over 2,000 locations. Approximately one-third are distributed through newspaper boxes; the other two-thirds are distributed in office and apartment buildings and in high-traffic retail locations which include restaurants, entertainment spots and other public places.
City Paper has their printing and distribution information monitored by Verified Audit Circulation (VAC) on an ongoing basis. We track the pick-up pattern of the paper every week and achieve a 97% pick-up rate and monthly readership of 552,581 from a readership study conducted by Scarborough Research 2011.
City Paper is distributed throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, with the largest concentration in Center City's business and residential district. It is a regional newspaper serving the neighborhoods of Philadelphia, its suburbs and southern New Jersey. Specific numeric breakdown by ZIP code is available.
Our distribution objective is to make City Paper readily available to our targeted readership audience educated, affluent and active young adults, ages 18-44, who live, work or play in Philadelphia.
