You won’t hear it from him, but Jim Gaffigan had a hell of a 2012. Between landing a contract for a collection of father-of-five horror stories, Dad Is Fat, (May 7) and self-releasing his eighth album and special, Mr. Universe, things have been going pretty well for the palest man in comedy. Following the model of standup peer Louis CK, Gaffigan ousted label involvement by distributing the special from his website for $5 (cheap!), free of DRM and regional restrictions (not to mention donating one out of every five dollars to The Bob Woodruff Foundation). And look, now Mr. Universe is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. Gaffigan kicks off 2013 by performing at the Tower Theater this Saturday. Expect heaps of self-deprecation and a love/hate relationship with fast food.
Sat., Jan. 26, 8 p.m., $39.50-$49.50, Tower Theater, 19 S. 69th St., Upper Darby, 610-352-2887, livenation.com.
