What began as a Black History Month writing conference 28 years ago has become a mammoth of a festival featuring 13 days of literary panels and workshops, music showcases and film screenings from acclaimed contemporary black artists. Hosted by Art Sanctuary, the itinerary of events act as a smörgåsbord of education and inspiration for an audience of young literaries who, beginning this year, will be able to take part in panels and workshops via online stream. Notable featured attendees include photographer Sed Miles, young-adult author Jacqueline Woodson, local poetry group Philly Youth Rising and the editor-in-chief of festival lifetime-achievement-award recipient JET magazine.
May 21-June 2, various times and locations, free-$35 (for Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony), 215-232-4485, artsanctuary.org.
