Date: Wed., Nov. 21, 2012
Location: Eighth and Market streets
The Story: This is Tyrone. I met him on the day before Thanksgiving while walking down the east side of Market Street — a favorite spot when I’m on the lookout for an interesting character. I actually heard Tyrone before I saw him, because he was standing near the entrance to The Gallery belting out the Christmas song “O Come All Ye Faithful” as shoppers shuffled past. His voice was resonant and powerful; I had to stop. To get the shot, I pointed to my camera and he gestured “OK” between breaths. Not pictured in the frame is the empty cup that was sitting by his feet. I filled it with a crumpled dollar bill.
