In How Things Work news, the Braiser reports that even though plenty of companies dumped Paula Deen for being a racist, that doesn't mean the Walmarts of the world actually pulled anything off a shelf or risked taking any kind of financial hit over it whatsoever. (A commenter also points out the same thing I've found myself thinking after seeing a few recent promos: Food Network is clearly already trying to walk back their own tepid condemnation, too.) Hooray! The system works*!
(* I am referring, of course, to the system wherein PR people very loudly take principled stands on behalf of corporations while a wholly unfazed market continues to reflect the actual values of the larger society it exists within.)
