SHOW: The Party
GENRE: Improv Comedy
GROUP: Philly Improv Theater (PHIT)
ATTENDED: Sept. 6, 9 p.m., Adrienne Theater
CLOSES: Sept. 22
BRIEF SELF-DESCRIPTION: “You are invited to The Party. Take a peek at the inner workings of a fully improvised celebration, as some of Philly's most skilled comedians explore awkward social situations inspired by the audience's suggestion with hilarious results.”
WE THINK: Welcome to The Party, where you’re invited to try some truly inspired homemade dips and offer the cast an occasion-worthy suggestion. At the ensuing celebration you’ll meet the hosts, who do their best to make sure everyone will have a good time, and the revelers, who have different ideas about what that good time entails. At Friday night’s Fantasy Football draft party, nestled somewhere between a dramatic telenovella and sitcom, party-goers are still psychologically, and sometimes physically damaged from last year’s Fantasty Draft. Though some characters rely on well-worn stereotypes, you’ll be offered solid laughs, sage advice from Grandpa, guidance for proper usage of social media apps, and who to pick to score big this year. Come for some Buffalo wings — the bowl is bigger than my head!
