Garces Trading Company (1111 Locust St.) has rolled out a swanky new happy hour to go with its newly installed bar. From 3 to 7 p.m. (a very generous four hours, amiright?) GTC is offering $5 Italian-inspired bar bites as well as some very serious beer, wine and cocktail options.
Let's start with drinks: Old world reds, whites, rosés and sparklers like a Loire Chenin Blanc and Spanish Garnacha are pouring by the glass. Beer offerings include a Saint Feuillien Belgian farmhouse ale and Jever pils from Germany and there are classic cocktails like Regent Punch and a creme de cassis spiked Kir all for $5.
On the edible end of things the menu is made up of a serious selection of antipasti plates that begins with vegetables (olives with thyme, orange and olive oil and baby artichokes with preserved lemon, honey, dates and walnuts) and moves on to a fivesome of house-made mozz served with grilled sesame bread and a selection of garnishes al'italiano. And then there are meatballs, five variations ranging from your workaday pork and beef with marinara and parm to lamb with harissa yogurt and curried shrimp and scallop meatballs.
So $5 a pop for meatballs and mozz plus a serious selection of beverage options is making us thinking that it's just about time to head over to GTC and check out this happy hour for ourselves because frankly, it sounds almost too good too be true. We'll let you know!
