Want something new? Try digging something old. Or at least something that smells old, as the Philadelphia Industrial Redevelopment Authority promotes the subway concourse from Spruce to City Hall with a new name (f2Underground) and a new every-second-Friday idea: live art. It’s a free public space and they’re suggesting artists use it. “Imagine … discovering a troupe of acrobats and a gospel choir jamming together, or a wall covered with cardboard where people can create a temporary mural,” says PIRA Project Analysis Coordinator Joe Smith. The “open festival of free creative activity” starts Sept. 13.… Speaking of revival, the former Revival on Third reopens Sept. 14 as Static, with their Friday party, named “Revival,” hosted by TommyU with Nigel611, Christian James, Reno, Ad Rock Diabolic, Lorne, Dozia, Deep C, Randall J and Scott Melker amongst the spinners, divvied up between booming upstairs and asylum-style padded room VIP lounge.… Lucy/SoMa/Drinker’s Tavern op Avram Hornick got the g’head on a liquor license for the rumored (by me) takeover of R&W Deli in Rittenhouse Square for his next bar.… Whowhere: how much security do 51 Miss America contestants need? Plenty: FBI and bomb-sniffing dogs at Ritz-Carlton, Tiffany’s and Saks Fifth Avenue where Fashion/Event Director Jane Carton instructed them on the fine art of packing one’s Vuitton. When David Morse isn’t busy filming Hack at the IFSD Building on 11th, he’s sipping at Bar Noir with cast and crew. J-Lo and Ben Affleck weren’t noshing at Famous Deli. They and Kevin Smith took over Fourth and Bainbridge for Jersey Girl with fans divided/decided (according to CP editrix Debra Auspitz, doubling for Ms. Lo) between little girls (for J-Lo) and guys in Ramones T-shirts (for Smith, obviously). Affleck fans were looking to see if those Fox News bald rumors were true. And if Omar Epps is in town, what was he doing at Bob and Barbara’s (looking for K-Tell’s gay-white-hip-hop-parody “Pranksta’s Paradise”? That’s Sept. 18, Omar).… Stephen Starr builds his dream block: Orange stickers tell the tale of Starr Group owning long-desired boarded properties along Second Street above the hair salon, arcade, etc. A hotel/motel maybe?… The Jane Anchor promise to “give lap dances to each and every one of you” at North Star on Sept. 12. Take the ladies up on it.… While Donna Karan created a t-shirt for Breast Health Institute to sell for Oct.’s Shirt Off Your Back gala, rumored honorees for the event still float between Karan, Diane von Furstenberg and Kate Spade.… Who the hell is the evil Tritone backdoor neighbor who’s sicking L&I/LCB on Rick D’s place for noise violation, especially on avant-jazz nights?… While rumors fly about Cuvee Notredame’s ownership going crazy (throwing people out of the restaurant for no reason, money probs) recent ex-pat Robin Parry has found a new home for her Club Nostradamus at Ulana’s. Though CN won’t start till Sept. 19 -- with a CD release party for Kelly Ricketts of 3 Stories High -- Parry will throw a remodel/paint/reopen upstairs bar party Sept. 12. Pitch in. (Look for Nostradamus perhaps at 1616’s downstairs in October.)… Superhero not only signed a shopping/management contract with Atlantic-exec Frank Sciarra (who brought producer Tony Pappa to their rehearsals), they’re playing Sept. 13 at the Balcony.… Ex-Fatheads Jeremy, Jay and Dave have formed the keyboard-rock power trio Blivit and hit Fire first then Tritone on Sept. 13. Check out their for-sale demo.… DJ Brendan Olkus will bring his Sunday Alma de Cuba sound to co-owner Douglas Rodriguez’s NYC restaurant Chicama on Mondays.… Fuck Northern Liberties, paisan -- Mario Lanza Park at Second and Queen got their own funky festivals this month with the likes of The Knife & Fork Band Sept. 15, Neopolitan smoothie Andrew Mell Sept. 21 and, mama mia, Nancy Falkow making gravy Sept. 24.… Local singer-songwriter Peter Listino and Whole Foods Market team for the 3rd Annual Singer-Songwriter Seafood Fest -- starring the likes of Vincent James, Stephen DiJoseph, Karen Gross and Zoe Riches -- for MusiCares Foundation and Marine Stewardship Council, Sept. 14 at the Fairway (1575 Fairway Rd., Jenkintown, 215-481-0800) then Sept. 28 at 929 South St. with a new lineup.… Squarebiz and Pinnacle Productions present “Mic Check 2002” MC Battle at Five Spot Sept. 15, hosted by Dice Raw, graffiti by Dan 1, DJ Adam Bomb and judges Jay-Ski and Cee-Knowledge. Write miccheck2002@ebonetworks.com.… Fenway Records’ CD series In Our Lifetime Vol. 2 features Phillyites Eltro and Schooly D collaborating with Aphrodite on “Hoochie.”… Ex-Ram Squad-er Tommy Hill opens for Nelly this weekend in Scranton. Nelly returns the favor by appearing on Tommy Hill Street Blues. Another ex-Ram, Blueface releases his debut CD on Empire/BMG, Paul Klein’s new label.… After celebrating gold-record-dom at Fluid Sunday, are the newly Epic-label-less G. Love & Special Sauce being courted by Lost Highway?… Congrats/welcomes: to ex-Sony-PR-man Howard Wuelfing, who started his own agency Bad Company; to Zanzibar Blue’s Bynum Brothers for opening a new ZB in Wilmington. Happy b-days to chic PR-trix chick Michelle Malin-Seidman; to Dotdash (the only record shop with backyard in which to BBQ and host a roaring Boyds of London show); to Crimson&Clover web missies Alex Richmond and Leslie Goldman; to House Productions hairies Robyn Tronco and Dave Mass (DJ Imri threw them a wack party); and to Who fan Bryan Dilworth. Not only is he booking rock at the new 218 South St. (above Malokai’s with ex-Khyber bartender Brendan Gallagher tending), Dilworth had a boy -- Riley -- with wife Kristin Thomson.
