Donald Glaude

Despite the overspill of rave DJs these days, a solid, exuberant crowd-rocker is still hard to come by. Sometimes you need a guy who's willing to come out from behind the decks and join the dancers on the floor. Now is that time, and Donald Glaude is your man. Somewhat known for his ultra-funky track selection, the veteran DJ is even more famous for his enthusiasm -- often with arms high in the air, a huge grin across his sweaty face. Originally from Tacoma, Wash., Glaude got started by playing alongside DJ Dan in Seattle. Dan was fascinated by Glaude's charismatic, energy-fueled stage presence, so he introduced him to San Fran's Funky Tekno Tribe. Only a few gigs later, Glaude was an FTT resident and quickly revered in the West Coast rave scene. If you're familiar with his funked-up cuttin' and scratchin' on his two mix CDs, Off the Hook and his live mix recorded at Nation in Washington D.C., Mixed Live (both released on Moonshine), then you've only gotten a teeny dose of what this animated crowd-pleaser can do with house, techno and breaks. Experiencing Glaude in person is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Brace yourself for his Philly debut.

Thu., Sept. 26, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., with Dozia, Mercury Maze and Christian James, Static Nightclub, 22 S. Third St., 215-923-5007, www.paper-street.com.
