September 26-October 2, 2002 musicpicks Radio 4These Brooklynites were quite clearly raised on dance rhythms, Devo, funky angular guitar and the beauty of one-finger synthesizer melodies. On their sophomore release, Gotham (Gern Blandsten), Radio 4 is at times trying to mine the anathematic stance of INXS circa "Don't Change" (most notably on "Save Your City") and the innovative production technique of Second Edition-era Public Image Ltd. (how funny P.I.L. have a song called "Radio 4"). Still, once you've accepted the obvious influences, it's time to acknowledge Gotham's got some good ideas both musically and lyrically. The three-man gang of Radio 4 will be inducing a plethora of spastic movements and nodding heads when they bring their dance-friendly version of punk to the ready masses.
