Solas

If all you see is the headline news, it’s easy to think nothing good happens in the heart of Camden. But ask Solas, one of the best young Irish bands out there (www.solasmusic.com for a lively sample); they will tell you good news, and underscore it with good music. At their fundraising concert at the Tweeter Center this Saturday, the energy is focused on the Sacred Heart parish, where the Rev. Michael Doyle has brought hope to the neighbors of all faiths for decades. One of his favorite projects is the Heart of Camden Housing Corporation. (It’s along the lines of Habitat for Humanity.) Over the years Sister Peg Hynes led the effort to rehab and return over 100 homes to local family ownership. She and longtime supporter, Seamus Egan, Solas’ founder, were planning this fundraiser last fall when Sister Hynes was tragically killed in a car accident. In her honor, the work of Heart of Camden goes on and Solas joyfully adds its uniquely modern take on traditional Irish sounds to the effort.

Sat., March 22, 7 p.m., $25, at Tweeter Center, Delaware River Waterfront, Camden, N.J., 856-966-1212.
