Spot a Bullshitter
Thu., March 23, 4:30 p.m., free, UPenn's Irvine Auditorium, 3401 Spruce St., 215-898-5262
According to Princeton philosophy professor Harry G. Frankfurt, a bullshitter is "indifferent to whether what he says is true or false." In On Bullshit, his humorous analysis of inane banter, Frankfurt characterizes BS as a malignant cyst on the organ of public discourse. Politicians with diarrhea-of-the-mouth have tainted our view of what's most important: having a clue. "[Citizens] decide that they can't be well-informed if all they're getting is bullshit," he says.
But does Frankfurt himself practice the vice he deplores?
