THE WEEK IN EATS

Welcome to the Wine Gallery
Sat., July 29, 5:30-8 p.m.
German author Jean Paul Richter once said that art is "not the bread but the wine of life." Perhaps that's why the folks at the Chestnut Hill Gallery are throwing a wine party to introduce buyers and art aficionados to emerging artists such as Bill Campbell, Elaine Lisle and David Hyde. The wines, from Crossing Vineyards in Washington's Crossing, will be served by bacchanal sommelier Dave Bond, and include chardonnay, blush, viognier, chambourcin and wildberry. Chestnut Hill Gallery Wine Tasting and Art Extravaganza, 8117 Germantown Ave., 215-248-2549, www.chestnuthillgallery.com.

Dance up an Appetite
Sat., July 29, 3:30-8:30 p.m., $10-$30 (free for children under 5)
Think J.Lo's the only one with moves? Attend the Society Hill Dance Academy's dance party, and watch skirts twirl and hips shake to the rhythms of salsa, merengue, mambo, cha cha and bachata. Those too shy to dance can down a few beers courtesy of Yards Brewing Co., or feast on Latin party food catered by Isla Verde. Society Hill Dance Academy's Hot Latin Summer BBQ & Dance Party, 409 S. Second St., 215-574-3574, www.societyhilldance.com.

To-may-toe, To-mah-toe
Sat., July 29 (rain date is July 30), 9 a.m.-5 p.m., free
Tomatoes are the world's most popular fruit. Loaded with lycopene, they've been proven to fight cancer and heart disease. Makin' Music is hosting a festival in honor of the juicy fruit at the Linvilla Orchards. Families can enjoy live music, karaoke, a dance contest, face painting and a variety of tomato-themed events including a tomato relay race, a tomato sling and a tomato toss. Kids can also meet tomato-colored characters such as Elmo and Clifford the Dog. Expect to chow on the healthy fruit in its many incarnations, from tomato salad to tomato pie -- or go on a Pick-Your-Own trip into the fields. Tomato Festival at Linvilla Orchards, 137 W. Knowlton Rd., Media, 610-876-7116, www.linvilla.com.
