White Ninja Comics
|
In the hit-or-miss world of Web comics, WhiteNinjaComics.com delivers consistent insanity and hilarity. It's not the most beautiful or the smartest, but it is always good for a laugh (or at least that kind of tickled confusion that makes you yell, "What?!" as you shake your head and smile. The really good thing about it is that there are no rules. Sometimes the title character is in the world of children, sometimes he has a wife, sometimes it's just complete nonsense. The comic has been around a while now (in fact, it has a sizeable fan art section), but the big news is that it recently upped its production to three new strips a week.
Snake Bite
|
I recently discovered a drink called a Snake Bite. It is half a pint of beer and half a pint of hard cider mixed. My favorite kind is a Snake Bite black; this is just the same, only topped with a shot of blackcurrant syrup. Sounds great, right? No? Well, maybe you should try it first before forming opinions, jerk. I think there are other versions, like maybe a Snake Bite red. It is a British invention, although I learned it from an Irish guy in Germany. There is something in the mixing of the alcohols that really gets you. I highly recommend one.
The Moog Cookbook
|
These guys recently shuffled through my iPod after several years, and I realized how much fun it is to listen to covers of classic rock and grunge songs played on vintage synthesizers, drum machines, and all sorts of bleeping beatboxes. Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" becomes a cheesy bossa nova cha-cha while "Sweet Home Alabama" sounds like the theme song from a '70s sitcom. Also makes a great "name that tune" party game.
Panini at La Cigale
La Cigale is my new favorite place for a treat. They have all kinds of delicious-looking options, like crepes and pastries and such, but I always go straight for the panini sandwiches. My favorites are the St. Tropez (tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil pesto) and the Golf Juan (brie, sun-dried tomato paste, tomato and fresh basil). Depending on the weather, I might also add a cup of creamy soup. I also really like the vibe in there. I assume it's very authentically French, judging by the accents of the people who work there, but I've never actually been to France (unless you count two bleary-eyed layovers in Charles De Gaulle) so I really couldn't say.
