Things That Matter To People Who Matter

Monster Movie

Monster Movie is a two-member music outfit from London and Maidenhead, England. Christian Savill, one of its members, was also in the band Slowdive. They make delicate and beautiful music that can be misconstrued as sad, but Monster Movie's songs are an affirmation that, indeed, everything will be all right. No matter how heartbroken or bummed out or whatever you may be, you'll eventually get over shit in time. It's easy to get pulled down by the gravity of our stresses and anxieties during the difficult times in our lives, but it won't last forever, bloke. Trust.

Max Green Alchemy

My new fling is with Max Green Alchemy, a cruelty-free cosmetics line available at Juju Salon & Organics (716 S. Fourth St.), which specializes in organic products that are not tested on animals. I appreciate finding products with the leaping bunny and vegan logos on them. That way I know what I'm buying won't offend my senses or my sensibilities. My current fave is the Scalp Rescue shampoo. Smells yummy and is light enough to use daily. My hair looks and feels better since I've been using it! Great for swimmers and swingers.

Yourmusic.com

I'm a music junkie, always looking for a cheap way to satisfy my jones. Lala.com is a great resource for swapping used CDs, but for new CDs, you can't beat BMG's Yourmusic.com. For a $5.99 monthly membership fee (charged to your credit card), you get a new CD each month from their catalog, selected from a queue that you've set up. You can order more if you want, at the same price ($5.99 per disc, plus sales tax, but no shipping or handling charges — that even includes box sets). My recent acquisitions include Rhett Miller, Zero 7 and Monk and Coltrane at Carnegie Hall. Check it out!

Poppy

My attention lately has been captivated by a sleek 25-pound redhead named Poppy. I decided after moving here to end my dog withdrawal and take a visit to the pound. I've always loved this town: the beauty and history, the tiny streets and the overall energy. So I'd like to say that without her I still would have already gone up the Schuylkill River path at sunset, chatted with strangers in Fitler Square, taken daily runs, bought produce at a farmers market ... But knowing me, probably not! At the moment, I have a dog resting her head on my left knee, one cat sprawled out and purring on my right side, and another curled up on the sofa back behind my head. What a life!
