Rum Bar

It's Where We Drink

Putting your finger on Rum Bar's specialty isn't difficult. (Hint: It's not mint schnapps.) But beyond the obvious implications of the moniker lie some surprises — their fruit-infused rums and ultra-pricey top-shelf offerings, for starters.

Behind the bar, a couple of half-cylinder containers hang on the walls. Suspended inside are loads of fruit — kiwi and cantaloupe, most recently. But it doesn't just look nice — the fruit's infusing Bacardi to create the basis for the spot's signature dacquiris. Different concoctions are conjured up every week, and owner Adam Kanter hopes patrons will grow to appreciate rum as much as he does. "I [always] loved rum and had a lot of great recipes," he says, "so the bar seemed obvious."

Elsewhere, some super-fancy rums — they feature 45 different varieties — line the back wall of the bar. Mount Gay Tricentennial is probably the most expensive brand you'll find in all of Philadelphia — only 3,000 bottles were made, so it goes for $130 a shot. No one has tried it yet, so you could very well be the first lucky (read: rich) boy or girl to blow that kind of dough on 1.5 ounces of liquor.
