Well, the consensus is in and the majority of y'all talking about that Aussie children's toy stuffed with 1,4-Butanediol — the chem that metabolizes into ol' anesthetic GHB — were of two minds. One: If this were the '90s, Aqua Dots parties would be on, and raging and raving with Wink and Level 13. Two: Have you seen 'em? Could I give you 20 bucks for one? Or $2,000 for a bunch? Let's see who does it up But-ol style first: Dirty Diamond's dildo Thanksgiving Eve jawn at Khyber or the Broadzilla boys.
► We're hearing pretty much Don Juan Carlos Fernandez's fab Cubano dance-'n'-DJ spot Café Habana on South 20th is sold. Just waiting for a name.
► There chanteuse/sawteuse Nicki Jaine was, ready to party for Marlene Dietrich's 106th b-day at Cosmopolitan Club in the New Hope Inn, the space Bob Egan opened July 2007, when whiffenpoof: Without warning, Cosmo closed. Jaine went to Stockton Inn. Mose Allison's Nov. 16-17 show got moved to Roller's at Flying Fish on Germantown Avenue. And Egan's rumored t'have another space ready. But still?
► Meeting of the minds: When Vince Papale introduces his Wahlbergian epic Invincible at the Troc Nov. 19 to benefit his Good Sports charity, we want him to stick around — judge, even — Uncut's Drunken Spelling Bee upstairs at the Balcony. Maybe Vince and Uncut film director Jena Serbu could talk movies.
► WHOWHATWHERE: Standing between the sushi, the Stieglitz photos and all of those gorgeous Galanos and Rucci gowns at the Collab Gallery's opening gala at the PMA's Ruth and Ray Perelman Building was a whole batch of Philadelphians dressed mod, according to the invite: Sharon Pinkenson (nice high patent leather boots, yo), Lisa Roberts, Joe Wind, Jay MacCarroll (dunno what the outfit was), Nancy Glass and Suzanne and Ralph Roberts (not too mod). Spinderella spun at Fluid without dissing her VH1 cash-cow pals Salt-n-Pepa. When not plotting the new "Wrath of Marcie" single, the Go Team! could be found eating at La Fourno, pom-poms 'n' all. And that big-ass sheep police found in Port Richmond? Its name is Nick and the neighborhood guys in War on Drugs (just signed to Secretly Canadian) want it back. Sike.
► The Roots are on fire — at least their Things Fall Apart will be, in its entirety, when they curate Popped! 2008 in June.
► Sounds like after 15 years of pissing off metal bands, Out on the Town's Mike Vagnoni is moving music writer Lynn Ramage from her steady slot and putting painter/poet Marcus Shepherd into it. Speaking of multitasking painters, Falling Cow Gallery owner Tim Bowen was in Miner St. Studio with Knife & Fork Band playing guitar on their cover of his "My Paradox" for their new Brian McTear-produced CD. Speaking of Philly producers, see tmz.com/2007/11/05/scott-storch-and-linda-richman-no-big-whoop.
► Come Nov. 15, it's celebrate Quirk Publishing's fifth b-day time. Go eat cake at 222 Gallery, hear their fave DJs Pink Skull spin and talk up DogSmarts and Butt Rot and Bottom Gas.
► We don't care Whoopi's off morning radio at 106.FM. (Afternoon guy Logan'll replace her.) We didn't know Whoopi was still on. BUT. Sirius-ly after doing a punky version of Howard Stern's wedding song, Blue Collar sent it to the Stern show, Howard started playing it on-air, collared its singer Nick on the phone for 10 minutes during which Stern co-star Artie Lange asked Blue Collar to open up for his New Year's Eve show at the Tower. Ta da. Also Quick Step John just had its "One By One" played on ER. Which I also didn't know was still on-air.
► Who cares if we're losing everywhichwaybutoink? Philly's Sports Hall of Fame will still induct actual winning legends like Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Reggie White and Frank "Bucko" Kilroy Dec. 12 at Hyatt Regency, Penn's Landing. (phillyhof.org).
► I'm excited that Sugarcube and Topstitch Boutique's getting boy-ed on the sartorial tip. But if you're gonna man up, you got to go bespoke from head to toe: Nov. 17, check Bontoni made-to-measure, handmade shoes from Italy hitting Wayne Edwards for an exclusive trunk show-and-fitting. Goes good with the Dries Van Noten, yo.
► Before heading on tour with Jagged Edge and U-Darby cousin Gail Ann Dorsey, Jay Medley's Hired Guns hits Fergie's Nov. 16.
► Nexus started its new mem exhibition with monthly series curator Bilwa who invites you, yes, you, to come in any time, any day, and be part of his musical/viewing installation. Get in. Mix it up. Until Dec. 7, that is. After that, you're just bothering people.
► Last week, when we mentioned Lacroix's celebrating its fifth anniversary Nov. 19, we may have been unclear. Exec chef Matt Levin, not Jean-Marie Lacroix, is doing the actual cooking with Dinner: Impossible's Robert Irvine.
► Judith Schaechter and David E. Williams go together like pie and the plague. She did the cover art for Williams' A House for the Dead and a Porch for the Dying. Her stained glass piece "Tiny Eva" was inspired by his "Dead Hymen" hit. They'll be together again at his Germ Gallery for her black-humored PowerPoint lecture and Extra Virgin book singing Nov. 15. Mwahaha.
