Spots for Philly Film Fest Sneak-In Snacks

Concealed Carry

1 Pagoda Noodle Café
125 Sansom Walkway, 215-928-2320

Pagoda's steamed vegetarian dumplings are both hideable and portable. Six spinach-wrapped pockets come stuffed with zesty cabbage, carrots, celery and water chestnuts. Just note that it may be inconsiderate to grub during Bad Habits, a Mexican film about eating disorders screening at the Ritz East.

2 Grocery
101 S. 13th St., 215-922-5252

Since you won't be able to successfully smuggle Bindi's shrimp xacuti into the Prince Music Theatre during Saturday's screening of Bollywood film Beloved, pick up a curried chicken salad sandwich from Grocery, its gourmet sister store. Also sneak-worthy: the market's pre-packaged pasta salads and brownies.

3 Mad Mex
3401 Walnut St., 215 382-2221

The Dance Marathon burrito (spinach, portobello mushroom and chicken) is perfect for a movie at the International House. Just please have the good taste to not crinkle the foil during Stranded, a doc about plane crash victims turned cannibals.

4 Zento
138 Chestnut St., 215-925-9998

Roll up the Flaming Dragon (spicy tuna, eel, avocado and red tobiko) in your jacket before checking out Japanese crime drama I Just Didn't Do It at the Ritz Five on Saturday afternoon.

5 Fresh Grocer
4001 Walnut St., 800-545-7176

The supermarket across from the Bridge Cinema de Lux stocks it all: fantastic four-berry smoothies, cheap slices of pizza, fresh-made deli sandwiches, drinks, chips, candy and more. It's truly one-stop shopping for secret stash cinema snacks.

Editor's Note: Sneaking food into theaters is an unprofessional practice that Gary M. Kramer does not condone. Really, though, these are some bitchin' ideas if you are wholly bereft of tact.
