Ansill European Barbecue
Fri., June 20, 6 p.m., $30
ADVERTISEMENT
Ansill will bring the outdoors into the AC with this family-style European barbecue. In contrast to the restaurant's usual output of delicately crafted small plates, this event will feature generous servings of grilled items, including homemade sausage, rabbit leg, veal kidney brochette and whole roasted pigs. Chilled vegetable antipasti and cold beer on tap will provide relief from the heat. Ansill, 627 S. Third St., 215-627-2485, an-sillfoodandwine.com.

Monk's Café: Odds & Ends Night
Tue., June 24, 5-8 p.m.
Having plumbed the depths of their cavernous cellar, the devoted beer aficionados at Monk's are hosting an event designed to showcase the gems they found hiding in the nooks and crannies. Offered in quantities too small to be sold regularly, off-the-list surprises will include bottles both local and far-ranging: Expect offerings from Dogfish Head, Pater Lieven, St. Feuillen and Birra Baladin, among others. Cash only. Monk's Café, 264 S. 16th St., 215-545-7005, monkscafe.com.

Sly Fox Beer Dinner
Tue., June 24, 7-10 p.m., $65
Chick's chef Jim Piano and Sly Fox brewer Brian O'Reilly are teaming up to present a tasting event for those interested in analyzing New World brews and their Old World inspirations. Try Sly Fox's Belgian Saison, Royal Weisse and Pikeland Pils back-to-back with classics like Saison DuPont, Schneider Weisse and Jaever. Piano will craft courses to complement each pairing, and Adam Gertler of The Next Food Network Star fame will make a culinary cameo. Chick's Café, 614 S. Seventh St., 215-625-3700, chickscafe.com.

Dragon Boat Festival Banquet
Through June 30, $36.50
Chef Joseph Poon will be serving a seafood-centric banquet of lavish proportions in time for the traditional Chinese holiday commemorating the death of poet Qu Yuan, who, as legend has it, honored his beloved country by drowning himself in the Miluo River. Expect dishes like lobster mango samosas in French phyllo and lobster foie gras with lobster coral atop Indian roti. Reservations required. Joseph Poon Chef Kitchen, 1010 Cherry St., 2nd Floor, 215-928-9333, josephpoon.com.

American Wine Values
Fri., June 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m., $38
Opting for American wines over their European counterparts can be a wise money-saving tactic. This class will aid both casual imbibers and devoted oenophiles in exploring delectable options from California, Oregon and Washington. With a focus on unusual-for-the-states grapes (Mourvedre, Tempranillo), this will be one budget-friendly glass-swirling exploration. The Wine School of Philadelphia, Classroom 101, 2006 Fairmont Ave., 1-800-817-7351, vinology.com.
