The Art of Politics
Through Sept. 28, Manayunk Art Center, 419 Green Lane, 215-482-3363, manayunkartcenter.org

Apparently, there's an election going on. In honor of the Obama v. McCain smackdown, the Manayunk Art Center's latest exhibit focuses on political imagery, with views ranging from serious to satirical. In Colleen D. Gjefle's graphic-yet-strangely-comical piece on the damning nature of bipartisanship, a manipulated playing card shows one king as he stabs the other and drinks his blood.

Stillness
Through Sept. 27, Bridgette Mayer Gallery, 709 Walnut St., 215-413-8893, mayerartconsultants.com

Using vibrant colors and layering to an intense degree, Alexis Serio makes her abstract landscapes come alive with the seemingly simple medium of watercolors. The blues, greens, yellows, maroons and browns of Warm Soak invoke the beauty of her subject without implicitly laying the scape out for the viewer.

Chris M. Clark: Paintings and Collages

Through Sept. 28, North Bowl, 909 N. Second St., 215-238-BOWL, chrismclark.com

Local artist Chris M. Clark makes earth-toned collages using the city as his template. In Tower with Autumn Trees (pictured), splashes of dark green, deep red and ochre set the mood for fall. Want more? Clark's work is also available in T-shirt form.
