Third Annual Midtown Village Fall Festival
Sat., Oct. 4, noon-8 p.m.

Midtown Village will host its third annual Fall Festival Saturday, closing streets to make way for activities like sumo wrestling (best taken on after sake bombs at RAW) and karaoke organized by McGillin's. Time will host a pig roast, and sister restaurants Bindi and Lolita will be serving up carnitas tostadas and chicken tikka wraps under outdoor tents. The Little Villagers area at 13th and Chestnut will keep children amused with moon bouncing, magic and face painting. midtownvillage.org.

Oktoberfest at City Tavern

City Tavern chef Walter Staib is presenting festive lunch and dinner menus in addition to the tavern's usual offerings throughout October. Lunch choices include bratwurst and kassler rippchen (smoked pork chops). On the dinner menu: wiener schnitzel and the schlacht platte, an assortment of meats topped with crispy fried onions, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. City Tavern, 138 S. Second St., 215-413-1443, citytavern.com.

Eat Your Way Through the Italian Market
Sat., Oct. 4, $50

Sample some of the freshest meat, cheese and produce in Philly, meet vendors who've been posting up on street corners since you were in diapers and learn about the history of the 100-year-old open-air eater's dream. BYOIC (bring your own ice chest) for take-home goodies. Directions and other specifics are e-mailed to participants the week of the tour. Terror Behind the Walls: Fright and Bite
Through Sun., Nov. 2, $35-$60

To celebrate spook season, Fairmount restaurants are collaborating with Eastern State Penitentiary to provide macabre prix fixe menus along with a ticket to Terror Behind the Walls. Participants may be using some ridiculous names for their menu items — "Severed Chicken Wings with Al Capone's Special Sauce" at Jack's Firehouse, "Monster Meat Lasagna" at Illuminare — but we don't mind as long as they don't skimp on taste. Check out full dinner packages at easternstate.org.

Mugshots ll: A Beer-Tasting Bonanza
Tue., Oct. 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $35

The Clay Studio, Philly's nonprofit ceramic arts education and outreach program, is teaming up with Triumph Brewing Co. for a beer-tasting soiree in Old City. The event will include samplings of Triumph's current brews and light snacks. Ticket-holders will receive a ceramic mug crafted by a Clay Studio student — an ideal booze vessel. Make reservations by calling Triumph or visiting theclaystudio.org. Triumph Brewing Co., 117 Chestnut St., 215-625-0855, triumphbrewing.com.
