Bachelor Party: Marcel Duchamp's Birthday Celebration

Sat., July 28, 2 p.m., free, ICA, 118 S. 36th St.

A range of incongruous activities sounds like a fitting way to pay tribute to the artist famous for placing a urinal inside a gallery and a goatee on the Mona Lisa. Artist Will Holder has been holding his Bachelor Party — an afternoon of film screenings, lectures and performances — on Marcel Duchamp’s birthday at the ICA for years. For Duchamp’s 125th, expect a reading from Holder’s biography of composer Robert Ashley, Yes, But Is It Edible?, and Benjamin Seror’s The Unhappy Readymade as well as a screening of Anja Kirschner and David Panos’ Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances, on the Meisner acting technique. Attendance may be required to really understand everything that’s going on here, but even then you may still experience the scratching-your-head wonder of staring at Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2).

Sat., July 28, 2 p.m., free, ICA, 118 S. 36th St., 215-898-7108, icaphila.org.
