Around the World in 80 Days

Jan. 15-Feb. 3, $30-$40, Walnut Street Theatre, Independence Studio on 3, 825 Walnut St.

Circling the globe is easier today than in 1873, when Jules Verne penned Around the World in 80 Days, but it’s not as much fun. Though seemingly unstagable — with its ships, trains, elephants and other spectacular modes of conveyance — Mark Brown’s inventive five-actor adaptation has become a regional-theater staple, and it launches the Walnut Street Theatre’s Independence Studio on 3 season before embarking on a national tour. Tony Lawton plays Phileas Fogg, who bets his London club that he can circumnavigate the Earth in record time, ably supported by Sarah Gliko, Damon Bonetti, John Zak and Bill Van Horn, who also directs.
