For more than 15 years, Philly’s most socio-conscious rapper Reef the Lost Cauze (Sharif T. Lacey) has been the go-to guy in the underground for million-words-a-minute phraseology and complex ideology. He won’t sell out. We should simply buy in. Joining him for a night of raw song and rugged wordy raps is Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter (pictured). Look, we don’t know if that long-intended solo album, The Talented Mr. Trotter, is ever going to be finished or released. We have witnessed that in 2012 he’s showed up on records by Hilltop Hoods, DJ Khaled and Talib Kweli, along with performing nightly as part of Jimmy Fallon’s house band. All we know is that if ?uest can stretch his muscles with everybody, rare solo Black Thought appearances like this one at the Blockley shouldn’t be so rare.
Sat., Dec. 29, 9 p.m., $20-$23, The Blockley, 3801 Chestnut St., 215-222-1234, theblockley.com.
