Rockpile a’crumblin’

| Rockpile goes down |
On Friday, July 28, 2006, Rockpile Magazine will be closing its doors.
Sad that — a Philly rock mag down.
Back in May I asked Mike McKee abour rumors I'd heard that they were closing down shop.
Then, he said, "No."
Now.
"I think we'd like to change our answer to, 'Yes, we are indeed closing the magazine.' There's a press release to follow, but since you'd asked a few months ago, thought I'd let you know," said McKee, ed-in-chief of Rockpile, re-answering my question to him sent on May 7.
But a note i got fowarded from an anonymous source that Mike sent to his troops on Sunday, July 23 follows after the jump. Yo. Y'all fought a good fight. Sorry to see you gone.
Hey,
I know I'm not always the easiest editor to get in touch with. I know I can be late getting back to people, let things completely slip my mind, and do all sorts of other things that can drive writers, artists and other editors crazy. That's why I consider myself extremely lucky, and I say that without any hint of sarcasm, to have you on our team and contributing to our magazine.
But, mostly I want to thank you for your talent, dedication and style--not your patience. That having been said, I have some bad news I want to share with you before it goes 'public.'
Financial hardship has forced the closing of the magazine, beginning almost immediately. After exhausting every other option throughout the past month while trying to maintain a bit longer, we have to recognize that there is no other choice but to close our doors.
Thank you, so much, again, for everything over the past couple of years, and I apologize for the disappointment that attends our decision. I know there's work you've done for us that now probably will not see the light of ay (at least in our magazine), and I want you to know that I appreciate all you have done for us. I have tried very hard not to assign in vain.
Unfortunately, while trying to keep things together, we hit a brick wall, and hit it quickly, so there wasn't much luxury for foresight.Although I'm, of course, sorely saddened by this decision, it is a great source of comfort to think of people like you whose contributions helped sustain and direct the editorial and content during our time at the helm.
Sincerely,
Mike McKee

Good Riddance Rockpile. You never covered any good Philly bands. Basically all you did was just regurgitate press releasees from tons of craptacular indie rock bands and their equally lame and uninspired records. Blogs are more cutting edge and informative, and Blogs are soooooooo over. What does that tell ya?!
See you in the funny pages, hipster douchebags!
