Liz Petersen, who co-owns Liberties Walk's A Full Plate Café with Shannon Dougherty, just confirmed that they've taken over the Walk space that housed Pizza U Empire to open a place they'll call Home Slice.
Petersen says they weren't always looking to expand with a pizza parlor, but the opportunity to was too good to pass up. After all, the shop is already outfitted to crank out pies; better yet, it's located about 20 feet from AFP. Food will be health- and veg-friendly. The menu is still in the works, but Petersen says they'll be offering things like whole wheat crust, vegan cheese and organic ingredients. They'll also do both meat and vegetarian cheesesteaks, wings, fries, burgers and salads. It will be BYO. "We're carrying over the philosophy we have here [at A Full Plate]," says Petersen. "Nothing fancy — just good, fresh ingredients. Good food."
They've already completed a lot of work on the interior — Dougherty's done a custom paint job on the bottom half of the shop's walls, which'll feature Philly-centric tchotchkes and newspaper articles.
No opening date yet, but Petersen says they'll definitely be ready to go before the end of the summer.
