EXCLUSIVE: Pub & Kitchen coming to 20th and Lombard

Lots of details on Pub & Kitchen, coming to fruition at 20th and Lombard in the former Chaucer's Tabard Inn, after the jump.

- The brains behind the simply named concept — entrepreneur Dan Clark and Ed Hackett, who's GMed at tons of places in the city, including Rouge and Rae. Hackett says they're trying to keep the casual corner tappie feel of Chaucer's alive while modernizing the adornments — there will be sidewalk cafe seating and picture windows that should do well in giving the notoriously dark space a little light. All told, P&K will be able to accommodate around 120 people inside and out.

- Head chef: Jonathan McDonald, who many know for his mavericking plates at Snackbar at 20th and Rittenhouse. (He left that restaurant, now run by head chef Josh Homacki, in May.) Jonnymac's English pub-inspired menu, which will be updated weekly, will break down into a handful of categories: starters, mains, bar snacks, sides and desserts. Food will be available from 4 p.m. till 1 a.m. nightly. Some sneak peeks:

  • Oysters on the half shell from both coasts, which will change daily
  • Fish and chips, featuring beer-battered hake with housemade fries and lemon aioli
  • Roasted striped bass with apple potato cakes and cider broth
  • Bangers and mash with mustard green beans
  • Lobster BLT
  • A domestic cheese plate with accompaniments like Guinness caramel

- P&K's wine list will feature bottles under $50 and glasses under $10. They'll also be mixing traditional cocktails using house-infused liquors — think vanilla bourbon and blueberry vodka. Twelve beers on tap — crafties like Breckenridge and Sly Fox will be among the opening choices — all for $3-$5.

- Expect a September debut.

UPDATE [15july08]: Foobooz poses a good question: Just what is that piggy rabbity creature on the P&K logo? Jonnymac: "[He] has a name ... but he's shy."

Sounds sweet - have been waiting for someone to whip the old Chaucer’s into shape… i hear they’re actually gonna be the first east coast restaurant to serve “rabig” there, the tender and decadent rabbit-pig hybrid
