Men's Journal magazine has recognized Victory Brewing Company’s Prima Pils as the only Northeastern beer mentioned in their article "What To Order When You’re On the Road."
Victory brews its Prima Pils in Downingtown, and the light-colored, refreshing lager has been a popular staple in the Victory portfolio. Men’s Journal further lauded the beer by comparing it to the ultimate microbrew-gone-big-time, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale: "As Sierra is to pales, Prima is to pilsner." MJ is a little bit of a Prima Pils groupie, having hailed the beer as "Best Lager in the World" in 2005. Victory brewer Bill Covaleski and crew also snagged the silver medal in the German Pilsner category at the Great American Brew Fest (like winning the Olympics of beer) last year.
Pilsner is a type of pale lager, originated in Pilsen, Bohemia, the modern-day Czech Republic. The city is situated on the confluence of the Mze, Radbuza, Uhlava, and Uslava Rivers; the soft water of the rivers and the use of German or Czech hops dictated this crisp, easy-drinking style. Pilsner is the style copied (badly) by inexpensive domestics Budweiser and Miller Lite.
Prima Pils is brewed with German and Czech hops and German two-row malt, and weighs in at a friendly 5.3 percent ABV, all the better for session drinking. Previously available in 12-ounce bottles and in kegs, Victory is adding a new 22-ounce size Prima Pils. Covaleski mentions that "with the growing acceptance of fine beer paired with fine cuisine, we are pleased to offer diners an option that makes a perfect pour for two at dinner."
Raise a glass of fine beer with the oh so fine and fancy cuisine at the Four Seasons Philadelphia, who have just added Prima Pils to their "exclusive" beer list. World-class beer, from Philly’s backyard to happy taps around the country.
