Huzzah, Mr. President-Elect! Now can we have …

Perhaps you've heard that President-elect Obama will be passing through Philly en route to his inauguration, a la Abraham Lincoln. He's expected to give a speech here (not sure where yet) some time Saturday morning. And while some people will look at this as an opportunity to smile and cheer and re-live the euphoria of election night, others will take the opportunity to get down to business, and start agitating for the "change they need."
From Health Care for America Now:
Welcome people on Saturday, January 17th as they line up to hear President-Elect Barack Obama at the first stop of his train trip to Washington before his inauguration
As a volunteer greeter on Saturday January 17th, you will be part of the largest mobilization of health care for all advocates Philadelphia has ever seen! Volunteers will:
- Work in pairs signing up folks as they wait on line to enter the speech venue.
- Ask everyone to sign a post card to Senators Specter and Casey
- Calling for guaranteed, quality, affordable health care for all.
- Endorsing the Obama / Health Care For America Now principles of health care reform that call for every American to be able to choose affordable health insurance either from their current insurer, another private insurance plan or a public plan open to all
It's tempting to say, you know, "Really? Even on his way to the inauguration?" But I like it. And I bet Obama approves. Maybe some other causes could seize the moment, too. The Mayor could stand outside with a poster about aid to cities. And we could all make a last-ditch effort to change Obama's mind about Rick Warren.
