SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from April 9-15

POSTED: Monday, April 9, 2012, 12:00 PM

Friday: Brooklyn electronic-pop duo Tanlines released their latest LP, Mixed Emotions, last month, which is an emotionally sweeping display of dreamy restraint. 9 p.m., $10, Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 Saint James St., 215-735-5772. âž¤ The pop quartet from down under Jezabels (pictured) are in the States promoting Prisoner, their latest full-length release. Led by strong percussion work and darkly beautiful female vocals, the band seems to be heading in a gothic, new wave direction. 8 p.m., $12, Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 215-739-9684. ➤ You can hear some blazing string work on Dead Man’s Hand, Harpeth Rising’s second album. While there are strong folk and bluegrass qualities mixed in their sound, they cannot be pigeonholed as either because of their rhythmic take on banjo, fiddle, hand drums and cello. 8 p.m., $25, Psalm Salon, 5841 Overbrook Ave., 215-477-7578. âž¤ If you were to need a soundtrack for a zany space expedition you would have to look no further than Peelander Z. Their forthcoming album, Space Vacation, due out April 10, is a Japanese punk assault with spaced-out synthesizer and non-sensical lyrics. With their equally weird costumes and personalities, their shows are out of this world. 9 p.m., $12, The Fire,  412 W. Girard Ave., 267-671-9298.
