SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from April 9-15

POSTED: Monday, April 9, 2012, 12:00 PM

Saturday: The acoustic roots rock band from New York Pinegrove sound like they could easily be retrofitted into a mainstream pop ensemble with their fresh vocal harmonies and styling along with their instantly catchy songwriting and swaying rhythms. Elenas Soul Lounge 4912 Baltimore Ave., 215-724-3043. âž¤ Completing the trilogy of Aint albums in March with the release of Aint Aint Aint, Tim Fite (pictured) thematically focuses on the passion and pain of one’s teenage years with an overtly nostalgic record that anyone could relate to. Like a Randy Newman, Fite is able to maintain a lighthearted tone throughout most of his songs which are very well composed and texturized with piano, horns, strings, chorus harmonies and slide whistle. 9 p.m., $10, The North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 215-787-0488 âž¤ Thinking Machines are a bottom-heavy, new wave/metal band with no gimmicks. They stick to tight syncopation between overdriven guitars and thunderous percussion, which could almost be considered progressive rock. JR’s Bar 2327 S Croskey St.
