Titanic: The Rise of Rosenbach

With the 100th anniversary of the Titanic shipwreck come multiple opportunities to pay your respects. If Leonardo DiCaprio’s beautiful face holds no appeal, try the exhibit “Titanic: The Rise of Rosenbach.” Walk through brittle, browned letters and telegrams, and browse newspapers with headlines like “1500 Lives Lost, Survivors Report, in Sinking of Liner Titanic, Which Rammed an Iceberg.” The descent of the Titanic is the main draw, but the exhibit’s second half charts the simultaneous ascent of the museum’s namesake, book dealer Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach. When his friend (and fellow bibliophile) Harry Elkins Widener was killed in the disaster, Rosenbach was called on to put together Harvard’s Widener Memorial Library — the success of which launched the career of one of the most prolific rare-book dealers of the 20th century.

Through June 24, $5-$10, Rosenbach Museum & Library, 2008-2010 Delancey Place, 215-732-1600, rosenbach.org.
