BACK TALK: You can take the Ripa out of Jersey ...
Christopher Seybert dishes on the week's best and worst moments in daytime talk.
Kelly’s Jerseylicious New Gig
Kelly Ripa has made her Berlin, New Jersey (Camden County) roots no secret with her undying love of big hair, tan skin and the Shore all being dead giveaways of her home state. And while her appearance may have changed slightly, her Jersey girl persona is ever-present and was put on full display when she returned to the Garden State this week.
As a part of Live! with Regis and Kelly’s “Do It Week” Regis and Kelly have been appearing on reality television shows to learn different jobs from the experts. On Wednesday, Kelly went down to the Gatsby Salon in Greenbrook, New Jersey to get hair and makeup tips from the cast of Jerseylicious. By the end of the day she mastered the smokey eye and washing and teasing hair. Maybe now she’ll retire with Regis in November and open her very own salon.
A History Lesson for the Ages
We’ve all probably been in this situation at least once or twice in our lives: You have a test in the morning with so many things to memorize that it seems impossible. You’re racking your brain for clever ways to retain all the information when you remember that someone once told you that making up a song with the words or definitions helps you remember them. But does this actually work? Well if Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon’s performance of "History of Rap 2" on Tuesday’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is any indication, I’d say it’s a success.
As a sequel to their 2010 performance of “History of Rap,” and to the disappointment of history teachers everywhere whose students now know that history can be fun, the two performed an amazing medley of over 20 rap songs from Kurtis Blow’s “The Breaks” to Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend.” What can’t these two do?
Where’s Wendy?
Yes, summer can be an entertaining time with fun in the sun, vacations and barbecues, but it’s also the time of the dreaded hiatus when your favorite television shows leave you for three months. One of my favorites, The Wendy Williams Show, has been on hiatus since June leaving her fans to wonder, “How’s she doin’?”
Well Wendy Williams was on The View Tuesday, saying it like she meant it and giving us all a taste of season three of her talk show, set to air September 12. She dished on J.Lo’s “publicity stunt” divorce, her despise for weddings (much to the dislike of Sherri Shepherd) and her “Say It Like You Mean It Summer Tour,” where she’ll travel the country and visit fans in 17 U.S. cities — not including Philly. What are you thinking, girl!?
