Between Shores

For the past month, the PAFA has been fortunate enough to display the paintings of former student Henry Ossawa Tanner. Although he attended the school over a century ago, Tanner remains one of the most prolific artists in the realm of religious painting. He was one of the first African-American artists to gain international recognition, working in both the U.S. and France throughout his career. His Transatlanticism is part of what makes his work so intriguing, and will be the subject of today's lunchtime lecture with scholar Jeff Richmond-Moll.
