The Art of Conversation

The writers and exciters behind The Art of Conversation have taken poetry as their means for creating a nationwide movement of like minded artists. Every first monday, poets across the country get together in their respective cities for an open mic event that puts new emphasis on the word “open”. Using a format somewhere between an art class critique and Inside the Actors Studio, audience members have a chance to offer feedback and ask questions after each reading, creating an interactive space where poets not only perform, but also develop their craft. This month's event will feature poet Mary Bowman, whose book Lotus was chosen as the National Underground Spoken Word Poetry Awards 2011 Book of the Year. If you're new to poetry or just want a new space to share your work, tonight's event offers a chance to grow with the support of a community of fellow poets.

7 p.m., $10, The Arts Garage, 1533 Ridge Ave., poetry247.com/aocphilly/
