Poetry, Tattoos and Coffee, Oh My!

For those of us trapped in the city, Philadelphia's Northwest neighborhoods can act as an occasional refreshing glimpse into quaint, small-town existence still reachable without a car. The breweries of Manayunk continue to lure in visitors and Mt Airy has an influx of new businesses, but I’m here to make the case for the oft-forgotten East Falls and its stone churches and cozy bars on the banks of the Schuykill. But this seemingly sleepy town has a lot to offer when it comes to the arts. Tonight, the Tattoo Gallery Café/Java Ink will be offering another edition of their weekly Poetry Fusion open mic. Hosted by local artist Sean Murray, the night is open to poets, rappers, writers, and anyone with a story to tell. While you're there, check out the shop's rotating display of tattoo-inspired paintings.

7 p.m., free, Tattoo Gallery Café/Java Ink, 3720 Midvale Ave., meetup.com/Poetry-Fusion-Open-Mic/
