Endless Vacation

Joy Stocke and Angie Brenner met on the balcony of a guesthouse in a small resort town on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. A romantic introduction indeed, the two assumed their meeting would be like that of most travelers: picturesque, pleasant, and cut short by responsibilities back in the “real world”. Instead, they would spend the next ten years traveling the country, leaving any notions of returning home decidedly in the Anatolian dust. Living out the ultimate tourist trap, the travelers made it their mission to learn everything they could about Turkey, a country that never ceases to amaze locals and outsiders alike with its incredibly diverse traditions. Turkey is a nation at the crossroads—between East and West, antiquity and modernity, religion and secularism. While the chic boutiques and coffee shops of Istanbul link Turkey to its European neighbors, the dance of the whirling dervishes reminds visitors of the country's long Sufi tradition. Weaving together first-hand accounts with a dynamic cultural history, Stocke and Brenner compiled their journey into an incredible work of travel narrative titled Anatolian Days and Nights. Join them tonight as they recount the vacation that just couldn't seem to end.
