The Pigeon Slam

What does First Friday mean to a poet? A good old-fashioned slam. Tonight, The Pigeon presents a poetry slam to get you cooing and clapping and jumping out of your seat. With three rounds and many a talented poet, the competition is sure to be fierce. Featured guests include Angel Nafis—a Brooklyn poetess whose work has been featured in FOUND magazine, Decibels and the GirlSpeak Webzine—as well as Philly's own Hiwot Adilow of the Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement. Poets are asked to show up early to secure a spot in the slam, and there are no limitations in terms of genre—if you have words to say, come say 'em! The top grand slam winner will have the honor of representing Philadelphia in the Southern Fried poetry slam in Tampa, FL. Come out to witness the crème de la crème of local literary talent and who knows, this could be your ticket to a Florida vacation.

8:30 p.m., $10, Crane Arts Old School, 1417 N. Second St., mswisedecision.com.
