Biking to Hollywood

Although soaring gas prices and eco-posi vibes are valid reasons to become a biker, there's also the simple fact that bicycles are just cool. From cruisers to fixed-gears, the basic technology of the bike has changed fairly little, making their asthetic timelessly appealing. Since 2010, bike enthusiast and Philadelphia Inquirer movie critic Steven Rea has turned to Hollywood for bike-junkie inspiration. His blog, Rides A Bike (ridesabike.tumblr.com), features images of famous actors on chic two-wheelers. It's kind of like the “celebrities do normal things just like you” bit in tabloids, but with more vintage glamour and indy appeal. Following the blogs popularity, Rea has since released a book featuring the best of these Hollywood style bike-cons. Join him for a discussion of his two favorite loves, movies and biking, as they announce their marriage on the pages of this soon-to-be coffee table classic.

7:30 p.m., free, Central Branch, Free Library, 1901 Vine St., freelibrary.org.
