Never Alone

The United States incarcerates a higher portion of our population than any other country. Prisoners are hidden from our view, making it easy for us on the outside to forget their stories and their fights. Following in the footsteps of anti-prison activists like Angela Davis, the organizers behind the Never Alone Prisoner Support Tour are making it their goal to answer the question: how do we provide longterm support to prisoners? The tour was inspired by the incarceration of two activists, Marie Mason and Eric McDavid, who are both currently serving time for fairly mild misdemeanors. Ms. Mason—a mother of two and a longtime environmental activist—was sentenced to 22 years for her role in damaging an office connected to GMO research. In a seperate case, McDavid was sentenced to nearly 20 years for his role in plotting an act of property damage that never took place. The month-long tour, will stop in 28 cities across the US, using multimedia presentations to bring these cases to light and raise awareness about the ongoing need for prisoner support.

7 p.m., free, Wooden Shoe Books, 704 South St., woodenshoebooks.com.
