God Loves Pavement

Canadian authors Vivek Shraya and Farzana Doctor first met on a five-hour drive to a joint book reading. They had so much fun they decided to keep driving, down to the U.S. and then across it. The collaborative reading from these authors will offer two takes on what it means to be queer and South Asian, seen through the eyes of some truly lovable protagonists. Doctor, a self-proclaimed writer, psychotherapist and consultant, will read from her latest book, Six Metres of Pavement — a story of three interconnected lonesome souls trying to meet their emotional needs and testing the limits of human relationships. Shraya's debut publication, God Loves Hair, a collection of 21 short stories exploring complex questions of gender, race and sexuality, is already being used as course material in gender and sexuality studies at the University of Alberta, Brock University and George Brown College.

5:30 p.m., free, Giovanni's Room, 345 S. 12th St., giovannisroom.com.
