Paper Fortress
With the increasing digitization of all things written, paper is becoming a thing of the past. Our children—or at least our children's children—may never learn the smooth feeling of a single sheet of paper, the way it feels between your fingers, its ability to slice your hand. For true paper junkies, this nostalgia goes back much further, to artisan publishing houses that watermarked each page for authenticity, or leather-bound Bibles with tissue-thin pages, or papyrus decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphics. Today, many fiber artists are examining the possibilities of paper beyond a canvas for two-dimensional work. Paper can be textured, grainy, colored and burned. Its pulp can have sculptural possibilities for clothing and installations. Tonight, Pterodactyl explores paper's artistic range with a reception for their exhibition Paper Fortress: Paper as Fiber, featuring works by ten artists who demonstrate that paper is not just something to draw on.
6 p.m., free, Pterodactyl Philadelphia, 3237 Amber St., pterodactylphiladelphia.org
It's so sad that females have the horrible privilege of having good sex, posing, dancing, humiliating and (yes) marrying men for money. They should be very fortunate to be at the very top of the sexual hierarchy. If the thought of other women making use of their societal privileges upset them, they should go to a marriage counselor who might be able to provide ample reasons for them to remain married. Till then they should stop complaining. cosmicmother
