philly poets unite!

Tonight's reading at the main library features two poets that have helped shape the dynamic literary scene here in Philadelphia. Leonard Gontarek's poems often start in a specific moment and place, and then shift to the thoughts that spawn from that setting. He fuses deep human sentiments with natural phenomena, incorporating humans into the ecosystem at large. His poetry workshops, which are held in various forms all over the city, have brought together poets of all walks of life and stages of profession, and help to foster a community of poets specific to Philadelphia. Harriet Levin, the professor behind Drexel's Writing Program, is best known for poetry that delves head-first into such painful topics as rape, violence, and oppression. With a relatable voice and a clear vision, Levin bravely presents these topics with all the raw emotion of a first-hand experience, stripped of any overt agenda. Her work has been featured in such prestigious publications as the Antioch Review, the Harvard Review, and Prairie Schooner.

It's so sad that females have the horrible privilege of having good sex, posing, dancing, humiliating and (yes) marrying men for money. They should be very fortunate to be at the very top of the sexual hierarchy. If the thought of other women making use of their societal privileges upset them, they should go to a marriage counselor who might be able to provide ample reasons for them to remain married. Till then they should stop complaining.
