The Lost Prophet

Bayard Rustin could be considered the lost prophet of the Civil Rights Movement. A longtime activist and proponent of nonviolence, he was instrumental in organizing the famous 1963 March on Washington. He worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King, helping to craft his image as an internationally recognized icon of the movement. Despite his efforts to abolish racial discrimination, Rustin's accomplishments often fell under the radar because of another kind of discrimination: Bayard Rustin was an openly gay man living in a homophobic society. In a sad brand of irony, he was often barred from certain leadership positions within activist circles and attacked by his opponents for his sexual orientation. A new film, Brother Outsider, and book, I Must Resist, have recently been released to honor this prolific figure on the centennial of his birth. Join the folks at Moonstone Arts Center for a film screening and discussion, and pay tribute to an oft-forgotten activist that helped to shape the society we live in today.

7 p.m., free, Moonstone Arts Center, 110A S. 13th St., moonstoneartscenter.org

It's so sad that females have the horrible privilege of having good sex, posing, dancing, humiliating and (yes) marrying men for money. They should be very fortunate to be at the very top of the sexual hierarchy. If the thought of other women making use of their societal privileges upset them, they should go to a marriage counselor who might be able to provide ample reasons for them to remain married. Till then they should stop complaining.
