CIAO, BELLO: Roberto Capucci's last weekend at the PMA

Roberto Capucci’s mathematical designs and perfected pleats have been heralded loud and long since his "Art Into Fashion" exhibition started at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

But mere days before the colorful exhibit closed, the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the city of Philadelphia welcomed Capucci from his Italian home, and not only for a special tribute from museum patrons and local officials bearing proclamations and tributes on the PMA’s Great Stair Hall: In the City of Brotherly Amore, June 2 was officially declared Roberto Capucci Day.

Fete attendees buzzed around the handsome and gracious Capucci like bees swarming to a honeycomb.

Along with being a suave, sweet gentleman who greeted all with a friendly smile, I watched him do the strangest, most charming thing. During one free moment, after his translator brought him a glass of red wine, he set the plastic cup upon the table, ripped open two raw sugar packets and poured them into the glass.

That was the most delightful thing I ever witnessed.

Ciao, bello!
