CURATOR: found asparagus and living in a gallery

ArtWell at the Philadelphia Foundation

West Philly’s ArtWell is a nonprofit that encourages young people to get involved in their community in positive ways through the arts. For the past decade, the foundation has worked to develop creative and reflective curricula that have been used by over 125 schools, parishes, and organizations. ArtWell offers creative retreats, workshops, and boys and girls arts programs to help youths seek solutions to problems through art and literacy. This month, to mark their ten-year anniversary, ArtWell has joined with The Philadelphia Foundation (a local philanthropic resource distributor) to present an exhibition of work produced by participants of ArtWell’s programming.

On display in the Foundation’s gallery are over fifty works, including photographs, coming-of-age masks, documentaries, mosaics, and more. Viewing it really draws you into the heart of the communities touched by ArtWell and the exhibit is an inspiring example of how art really can shape and change lives, especially when introduced to people at a young age.
