CURTAIN CALL: Our indie theater lookout for April 17-23

POSTED: Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 12:00 PM

Curio Theatre Company makes a point to bring selections from the Shakespeare canon to its West Philly stage every few seasons. This year, Curio closes its season with Elizabethan rom-com The Tempest. Blown in with the eponymous storm are Shakespeare’s usual machinations: political intrigue, bawdy drunkards and majestic turns of phrase. But at the heart of this supernatural romance, which has inspired countless poems and paintings, are two young kids looking to get lucky in love.

April 19 to May 19, 8 p.m., $10-20, 4740 Baltimore Ave., 215-525-1350, curiotheatre.org.
