CURTAIN CALL: Lonely boys and leprechauns

POSTED: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 1:00 PM

Cultural hybridity has been a reigning trope of contemporary artistic movements for at least twenty years, yet Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company’s performances continue to imbue modern dance with a fresh, worldly perspective. For nearly a decade, the D.C.-based company has incorporated traditional Indian dance into modern choreography in order to corporealize the hyphenated identity of South Asian-Americans. Dakshina’s artistic mission dovetails perfectly with that of Philly’s Asian Arts Initiative, which will host the company this weekend for a performance that includes celebrated fusion work Vasanth and male duet Since You’ve Asked.

Sat., March 17, 3 p.m., free (RSVP required), Marshall Auditorium at Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Ave., Haverford, brownpapertickets.com.
