CURTAIN CALL: Vicious and entertaining

Each week, Michael Gold breezes past those big-name theater companies to turn a spotlight on Philly's indie stages.

✚ MICROCRISIS

Wednesday brings the official opening night of Microcrisis, InterAct Theatre Co.'s latest that promises black comedy as only a complete global financial meltdown renders possible. InterAct follows through on its goal to deliver socially relevant theater to the masses, presenting the tale of a smug investment banker (Kevin Berger), who manipulates ethical do-gooders into ravaging the global economy. If your financial acumen is anything like mine,  the technical terms underlying playwright Paul Lew’s venture into economic ruin might pass you by. But that should hardly make the satire any less vicious or entertaining.

Through Feb. 12, $28-40, The Adrienne Theater, 2030 Sansom St., 215-568-8079, interacttheatre.org.
