CURATOR: New gallery exhibits from May 4-10

"Paint it Now" at Space 1026

This show’s title, a play on the Stones classic “Paint it Black,” is fitting: The show's a little bit graffiti, a little bit graphic design, a little bit sketch and a lot of kickass. Space 1026 is just the latest host of the collaborative, traveling show curated by Thomas Buildmore and Scott Chasse — the installation/performance-art project has been shown three times since 2008 in Boston and New York.

In the show, 15 participating artists were given white walls and an ink-black blend of Lascaux paint and told to create (together) whatever they wanted. In some ways, the result isn't all that different from cave painting, a collision of subconscious imagery and energy that at times gets freakish — think flying demons and giant slugs eating cats meets flower power and comic books. Check out a time-lapse video of the creation of a 2010 version of the show in Boston below.

Through May 25, free, Space 1026, 1026 Arch St., 215-574-7630, space1026.com.
